Entrepreneurs face challenges on their course to the top and many have closed up unable to overcome them. Christians in business are not exempted from encountering challenges. It is well noted that even Christians in business are prone to more troubles than others because money is a powerful instrument of change. No matter how serious the challenge might be, at the other side of the tunnel is a success.
When Jesus just began his ministry here on earth, he met Simon Peter, a businessman in the Fishery industry whom after all night long fishing could catch fish. He was disappointed, discouraged, and dismayed. As the crowd kept pressing on Him to hear the good news at the lakeside where Peter and his Partners were cleaning their nets, something amazing happened that the story of disgruntled Peter forever.
In other to have a very good stand position to teach the crowd, Jesus “entered one of the boats, which was Simon’s, and asked him to thrust it out a little from the land. Then He sat down and taught the people from the boat.
When He had finished speaking, He said to Simon, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” Simon answered Him, “Master, we have worked all night and have caught nothing. But at Your word, I will let down the net.” When they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was tearing. So they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both boats so that they began to sink” (Ref. Luke 5:1-8)
Vanity without Christ
Peter and his Partners labored all through the night without a catch. Nothing to show for the sleepless night in the cold. They could have been dismayed, disappointed, discouraged, and disgruntled until Jesus showed up. There are records of Believers that have a business, but year in year out, they circled in the same position with no progressive success and not getting closed to their goal through the word of God as established in Isaiah 65:13 says “they shall not labor in vain nor bring forth children for trouble; for they are the descendants of the blessed of the Lord and their offspring with them”.
Jesus is the Strength
David declared in Psalm 27:1 that “the Lord is my light and my salvation; whom will I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom will I be afraid? , and God “gives power to the faint, and to those who have no might He increases strength”. Peter and his team had toured all through the night without a catch. So much energy would have been used and exhausted but when Jesus appeared they were replenished.
Jesus is the Hope
The word of God is the very hope for the hopeless. Jesus told them not to be afraid because He knows that many circumstances will show up to deceive people from the truth. As a businessman or woman, you will always be confronted with things that may seem to be right that eventually will lead to failure. There is no reason to be hopeless even in the midst of a hard time because Philippians 4:19 says “God shall supply your every need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus”
It pays to obey the word of God
When Peter was instructed to go back and cast the net, he obeyed even while he was not sure. There were many occasions that the Spirit of the Lord spoke to us about a particular kind of business, contract, strategy, or new area of investment that we did not respond to for not being able to decode the voice. Some might even take the look of the high risk just like Peter was specifically instructed to cast the net into the deep part of the Lake. It pays to obey the word of God. The manifestation of the Word of God is in the doing.
Let Christ be your Shepherd
In Luke 5:11 we were told how Peter left everything including the great catch and the boat and followed Jesus to be the shepherd. His eyes of understanding were quick to be opened to know that he was standing right before the Lord. Jesus is the good Shepherd, submitting to Him and following his teaching will only lead to good success, and on the contrary, the sheep lose direction without a Shepherd. Peter’s action was a total submission to Christ Jesus.
Push the Gospel
A Giver does not lose. Jesus needed a better platform to be able to reach out to the People, and then He requested to use Peter’s boat. It was not mandatory that Peter after sailing all night without a catch to give out the boat, but a man with a giving heart does not hold back even if he has nothing. If he had not allowed Jesus to make use of the boat, Jesus would have found an alternative and Peter would have missed all the blessings. In Genesis 12:2, we were made to understand that Abraham was blessed to enable him to be a blessing to every nation.
Listen, Know and Hear His Voice
Jesus speaks to us in several ways and through several people. Knowing the voice will be complicated if you do not have enough of God’s word. Remember that Satan also quotes the Bible. For you to understand the voice of Jesus the Good Shepherd, you must strive hard to take in more of the word of God because it “is alive, and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, of joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intents of the heart”.
The fastest way to change your business status
The bible my people perish because of lack of knowledge but with the word of God in your spirit, you will confidently run your business and have good and sustainable success and the easiest way to achieve this is to abide in Christ and allow His word to abide in you. His word is the solution to all the challenges and will guide you in all your dealings. In Deuteronomy 8:18 we are admonished to always “remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the ability to get wealth, so that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is today” and in Joshua 1:8 say “this Book of the Law must not depart from your mouth. Meditate on it day and night so that you may act carefully according to all that is written in it. For then, you will make your way successful, and you will be wise”.
Thanks for taking some time to read this message, and it is my earnest prayer that we always hear Him when he speaks.
